AFL W Grand Final Preview

This saturday night it will be the minor premiers North Melbourne up against the Brisbane Lions in front of a sold out crowd at Ikon Park for the AFL Womens Grand Finals. The Brisbane Lions are trying to go back to back and become the first women's side to achieve that accomplishment, while North Melbourne are trying to get redemtion after becoming runners up in last years grand final against Brisbane.


North Melbourne has been the standout team all year winning all there games during the home and away season and their two finals games, however they did have one draw against Geelong in the early stages of the AFL W season.

Brisbane Lions on the other hand have proven to be the benchmark team when it comes to Womens AFL playing in there 6th grand final in 9 seasons which is an outstanding record in any form of footy. Brisbane have only had 2 losses for the whole season, Round 8 against Geelong and Round 1 against no other than North Melbourne by 44 points.

The Matchup between North and Brisbane comes from both key forwards. Brisbane's Taylor Smith has kicked 21 goals of the season, however has kicked only 1 goal in this years finals campaign which was against hawthorn in the qualifying final. Taylor Smith did get selected in the AFL Women's All Australian team during the week. On the other side of the spectrum North Melbourne Forward Kate Shierlaw has kicked 3 goals this finals campaign adding to her 15 that she kicked during the home and away season.

Brisbane and North are the two highest scoring teams in this years AFL Womens competition, however Brisbane Lions have scored 699 points throughout the competiton, while North Melbourne have scored 772 points. If the stats are telling us anything we should be in for a high scoring affair between two of the best sides from the 2024 AFL Womens Season.
